Mr Sullivan: Good morning, Mrs Bush!

Mrs Bush: Good morning, Mr Sullivan. How are you?

Mr Sullivan: I'm fine, thank you. Could I have a quick word with you?

Mrs Bush: Yes, sure.

Mr Sullivan: Mrs Bush, you know I'm not a nosy parker… but were you and your husband away last weekend?

Mrs Bush: Yes, Mr Sullivan. We had to go away on business, but our boys stayed at home. But why?

Mr Sullivan: That's your boys I wanted to talk about. They decided to have a party.

Mrs Bush: I know they had a party. They wanted to invite three or four friends. I let them do it.

Mr Sullivan: Three or four friends? There were about thirty of them! It was a very noisy party, Mrs Bush. They played loud music, and I just couldn't sleep.

Mrs Bush: Oh, they had made a promise to be quiet. And they broke it. I'm so sorry, Mr Sullivan.

Mr Sullivan: Mr Stewart from the house to your left told me the noise was getting on his nerves. He wanted to call the police, but I asked him not to do that. "They are nice boys, there is no need for the police to interfere", that's what I told him.

Mrs Bush: Thank you, Mr Sullivan. That was very kind of you.

Mr Sullivan: Well, Mrs Bush. We get on like a house on fire, and I didn't want your boys to have problems. I came to your house and asked your boys to keep the music down. I didn't tell them off or anything like that, you know. They agreed to me that it was no good playing loud music, so we had a bit of peace and quiet, but then…

Mrs Bush: Oh, what happened?

Mr Sullivan: They are nice boys, Mrs Bush. But most boys are bigheads and like to show off. So, somehow some of them had an argument and picked a fight.

Mrs Bush: How terrible! I'm sure that's George. He's the black sheep of the family.

Mr Sullivan: I'm not a busybody, you know, but I was really worried. Other neighbours were not very happy with the fight, of course. They were afraid the troublemakers would do some damage to their property.

Mrs Bush: I really must apologise for my boys.

Mr Sullivan: And your poor dog, Lucky, was so scared that he went barking and finally ran to my garden to get away from the noise. Lucky dug up some of my rose bushes because he was nervous. I let him stay with me for the night.

Mrs Bush: I'll make those troublemakers plant new rose bushes for you, Mr Sullivan.

Mr Sullivan: In the morning, I glanced at your garden. There was a lot of litter. Then I saw your boys, and they said hello to me. I told them I wasn't happy with what had happened. They apologised and started putting the blame on each other. I told them to tidy up the house and the garden, and so they did.

Mrs Bush: Yes, everything was perfectly clean when we came back. Now I know why.

Mr Sullivan: They are nice boys, actually. I know they are the apple of your eye, but I just think you have to know what happened, Mrs Bush. They are too young to stay alone, I guess.

Mrs Bush: Thank you, Mr Sullivan. I appreciate your help. I'll talk to the boys right now and make them apologise for their party to the rest of the neighbours.
