    1. Сформировать представление о строении растения (parts of a plant: leaves, stem/trunk, flower, fruit) и условиях, необходимых для его роста (soil, water, sunlight, air).

Parts of Plant», «Plant Needs», «Plant Life Cycle».
    2. Развивать умения аудирования (понимание определений учителя и видео).
    3. Развивать монологическую речь (описание этапов роста растения).
    4. Развивать умение задавать вопросы и отвечать на них в рамках учебной дискуссии.

План урока по теме Растения (Plants)

  1. Warm-up

Teacher draws a picture of a flower and asks students: “What is it?”

Students answer: “Flower”.

Teacher draws a tree and grass and asks: “What are they?”

Students answer: “Tree and grass”.

Teacher asks: “What can they all be called?”

Students answer: “Plants”.

Teacher: “What other plants do you know?”

Students answer: “Fruit and vegetables”.

  1. Introduction of new knowledge and new vocabulary

Teacher asks: “What do they all have in common?”

Students answer: “Leaves, flowers”.

Teacher introduces parts of a plant - shows a poster: “These are leaves. This is a stem. The stem of a tree is called a trunk. This is a flower. This is a fruit (плод). How do we translate “fruit”?

Students answer: Фрукт.

Teacher says: Yes, you are right. But in the picture it is a tomato. Is it a fruit like a banana? No. Here “fruit” is translated as “плод”.

3. Practice

Teacher says: “Now, we are going to do an exercise. Label the parts of a plant.”

Students do the exercise.

Teacher and students check the exercise.

Worksheet

4. Introduction of new knowledge and new vocabulary

Teacher says: “What do plants need to grow? They need soil (nutrients), water (nutrients must be dissolved in water), sunlight (for photosynthesis), air (for carbon dioxide CO2)”.

Teacher writes the words on the board.

5. Practice

Teacher gives students empty cards, students write the words “soil”, “water”, “sunlight”, “air” on them. Then Teacher reads the definitions and students raise the card with the correct word to answer.

Definitions:

  1. The light and heat that come from the sun. It is bright and warm. (sunlight)
  2. A clear liquid that has no taste or smell. We drink it. (water)
  3. The dark, brown (or black) material on the ground. It is made of tiny pieces of rock, old leaves, and dead plants (soil)
  4. The invisible gas that is all around us. We breathe it to live. You cannot see it, but you can feel it when the wind blows. (air)

4 empty cards for each student

6. Introduction of new knowledge and new vocabulary

Teacher shows a seed and says:

“Look at this. What is it? Yes, it’s a seed. A seed is very small. It is hard. But inside the seed, there is a tiny baby plant waiting to wake up. Now, we are going to learn about the life cycle of a plant. A life cycle is the story of how a plant grows, lives, and makes new plants. Let’s start from the beginning.

  1. Every plant starts as a seed. But a seed needs help to wake up. What does a seed need to grow? Do you remember? Yes, it needs water, air, sunlight and good soil.

  1. Then the seed starts to grow. A tiny white root comes out first. Then, a small green stem comes up. It goes up toward the sun. The seed is now a little sprout.

  1. Now the sprout grows bigger. It is no longer a tiny sprout. Now it is a seedling. A seedling is a baby plant. It has small leaves.

  1. Now the plant is big and strong. It is an adult plant. It has many leaves and a strong stem. Then it has beautiful flowers and fruits.

Now, let’s watch a video about the life cycle of a plant.”

  • A poster of the life cycle of a plant

7. Practice

Teacher says: “Now let’s do an exercise. Cut and paste the stages of the life cycle of a plant”.

Worksheet

8. Practice

Teacher says: “Now, we are going to plant a flower. Take these pots and put in some soil. Then put in a seed or several seeds and cover them with the soil. Pour some water on them and put to the windowsill.”

Teacher and students plant flowers together.

  • a pot for each student
  • seeds
  • soil
  • water

9. Reflection

    • Teacher says: “Raise a green card if you understand everything and you can name parts of a plant and say what it needs. Raise a yellow card if you understand most things, but I need more practice with new words. Raise a red card if it was difficult. I don't understand how plants grow.

red, yellow, green cards for each student
