Good morning, girls and boys! I’m glad to see you! Sit down, please. How are you today?

Today we’ll speak about marriage as the union between a man and a woman. We`ll learn some facts about the traditions, superstitions, similarities and differences between the UK and the USA wedding. We`ll share opinions about a perfect wedding.

Look at the screen, read the quote, think it over and express your opinion.

A good marriage would be between a blind wife and a deaf husband.

All right, what can you tell about this quote?

How do you understand it? Do you agree or disagree with the author?

Thanks for your opinions. A good marriage and a happy life ever after is a challenge for both – a husband and a wife. Without any efforts and compromises, there will be no family.

Now, we`ll learn some facts about weddings in the UK and in the USA. Do you know anything about it? I`ll show you a presentation, give you sheets of paper with small texts, where you`ll find information about British and American wedding and your task is to make notes ( what is typical for American and British wedding) and then we`ll discuss it and answer some of my questions.

What have you learned about the UK wedding? The USA wedding?

Look at the proverbs and signs that are bad or good for a wedding day. Do we have such signs in Russia?

What can you see at weddings in your country?

Thanks. Good of you. We`ve learnt some facts about marriage and realized the similarities and differences of this event.

Now you know a lot about weddings. You already know the vocabulary on the topic family relations and you are good enough in grammar. Now we`ll check up your knowledge. I`ll give you sheets of paper with the task. Work in pairs.

Read the text and fill in the gaps choosing the right option.

You have 7 min to complete the task. Let`s check it up. Well done.

We know that this day is special and important for a bride and a groom. They are nervous and both want everything to be perfect. Now it`s your turn to sum up all we`ve mentioned and speak about a perfect marriage. Open your books at p. 226 ex. 65 b. Read the task. Is it clear? You will be divided into 3 groups to make up a list of ideas about a perfect wedding. Use the vocabulary that you know, think it over, make notes and be ready to present your ideas to the class.

Let`s start.

Good. You have different opinions about wedding. We`ve learned a lot today. Thank you very much for your work.

What have you learnt today? Do you find it useful to speak about wedding traditions in different countries? Is it interesting for you to compare different counties and their attitude to such events?

You worked well at the lesson. Some of you will get good and excellent marks. What was interesting for you at the lesson? Ok.

At home you`ll do ex. 65 a at p. 226 ( make up a monologue about a perfect wedding in Russia/the USA/the UK) and you will learn the vocabulary ( topic – Family Matters) at p. 216 for a test.

See you tomorrow. Goodbye.

Good morning!

We are glad to see you too.

We are fine, thanks.
