To protect nature is to protect men

(урок английского языка в 8 классе)

Цель: развитие языковой компетенции учащихся через обобщение знаний по теме «Environment and problems».

Задачи: - проконтролировать умения и навыки учащихся вести беседу по теме,

- совершенствовать навыки работы с текстом,

- совершенствовать навыки монологической речи, языковой догадки, воспитывать в учащихся умение слушать друг друга, прививать школьникам любовь и уважительное отношение к природе.

Оборудование: раздаточный материал для учащихся по теме, наглядный материал, карта «Environmental Problems of our settlement», the table “Approximate Decomposition Times in a Landfill”.

Ход урока.

  1. Начало урока.

T.: Good morning, dear boys and girls!

I am very glad to see you. Let’s sing a song.

Звучит песня в исполнении учащихся “May there always be sunshine”

T.: It’s very pleasant to walk on the green grass, to fly over the green grass, to breathe fresh air, to drink spring water. As for me, I like to go to the forest to gather berries and mushrooms, to go to the river, to go to picnic. My husband likes to go fishing. It’s his hobby.

T.: How do you think what is the theme of our lesson?

(Ответы учеников). You are right.

Today we are going to have a talk about environment. What does environment mean? (ответы учеников). It means what is around us: rivers, forest, seas, animals, birds, trees, flowers.

T.: Answer my questions?

1. Do you like to go to the forest?

2. With whom do you like to go?

3. What do you do there?

4. Do you go to the river?

5. You like to swim, don’t you?

6. What is about fishing?

7. We live in the settlement. Do you like it?

8. There are many flowers and trees in it, aren’t there?

How do you understand these words? (Work in groups)

Now look at the apple, I’m holding in my hands.

Let’s imagine that it is our planet. Let’s cut the apple this way(одна – большая, другая – маленькая). Let’s cut the smaller part by 2 halves. Only this part of the land is habitable/ Let’s cut it into 4 pieces. Only that part is the place where food come from. And let’s cut a thin slice from the biggest part. This slice represents drinkable water. It’s very easy to destroy them and to break the existing balance.

T.: Today our planet is in DANGER.

If trees and flowers are cut, birds and animals may become extinct. We lose medicines which people get from these plants and animals. For ex.: thanks to a little rosy periwinkle in Madagascar nearly all children recover from the blood disease. It’s very dangerous disease.

Now let’s listen to the dialog between two girls.

T.: Fine weather today, isn’t it?

B.: It’s a beautiful day. Just like summer.

T.: What a beautiful park! Aren’t the roses delightful! I like it here very much.

B.: It’s a lovely place. Whenever I have time I like to wander round this park.

T.: What is over there?

B.: Those are the children’s playgrounds.

T.: Oh, I see merry-go-rounds and swings. I wish I could have a ride on a swing.

B.: Do you see that big place? Evenings and mostly on Sundays there are mass dances here.

T.: What is this in front?

B.: Can’t you see? It’s pond where people go boating.

T.: Let’s take another path.

B.: What’s the matter?

T.: I want to take a colour snap of the pansies.

B.: Now let’s sit down and have some sweets. (бросают бумажки)

T.: That will be nice.

Correspondent: Stop, stop! Dear girls! What are you doing? Don’t pick flowers, don’t litter the park with paper.

Girl: Excuse me, who are you?

Correspondent: My name is Miss Jane. I am a correspondent of the famous British newspaper “The Times”. Our newspaper understands that it is our responsibility to preserve nature and help the earth to survive. We drink dirty water contaminated by poisonous chemicals. Acid rains damade our hair and it starts going out. Sun radiation causes cancer. I want you to read the article from our newspaper. It is called “Ecological problems”. (Приложение 1)

T.: All these problems are very serious and important. Please look at the map.

The picture shows some environmental problems of our settlement. As these problems are global, I want you to discuss them (дети рассказывают о проблемах своего поселка).

  1. Совершенствование навыков монологической речи и разговорной речи.

P 1.: I want to be first. Paper comes from trees. If we don’t recycle paper, a lot of trees are destroyed. The country side is spoiled. People cut down trees. Fires are started. We like flowers very much, but people shouldn’t pick wild flowers. If trees are destroyed and people pick flowers and grass. Birds and animals may become extinct. People, don’t harm planet!

P 2.: We throw litter away too much and in the wrong place. We live litter near the river Kolp. The water is polluted and the fish in the river die. Local industry pours its waste into the river. The cleaning structures don’t work well. People, help to keep all water clean.

P 3.: Anton and I sailed of the river. People used to fish a lot. Today people like fishing too. But some things that they use for fishing kill animals. People, protect animals and fish.

P 4.: Our district is our home. We must take care of it for ourselves and for future generations. There are many springs near our settlement. It’s wonderfull to drink some springs water on a hot summer day. Children, clean springs.

P 5.: You can see different kinds of trees and flowers in the meadows near our settlement. But today they are disappearing. Each of us must do everything possible to protect nature. Children, plant trees and flowers.

P 6.: There are many animals and birds in our place. Many of them are in danger now. All woods are home to animals and birds. If trees are damaged and flowers are cut, birds and animals may become extinct. We are proud of our classmates, who made some birds feeders this winter and filled then with food. We are losing medicines which people can get from these plants and animals. Children, take care of birds and animals.

P 7.: Every spring I see rubbish near settlement. I think that our people do it. They throw away old things, paper, clothes,toys, bottles and plastic bags, May be do not know the three R rules; reuse,reduce and recycle. It’s a pity! People, take litter home.

Researcheres have recovered 25 year old newspapers from a landfill and found them readable.

T.: The pollution problems have received great publicity. Enviromental activists in our country, in Britain and America do their best to stop pollution of our planet (about Greenpeace).

T.: Today at our lesson we have a guest, the president of one of the famous American green peace.

President: I am Phlip Hensel, the President of green school.It was created to teach children how to protect the environment. This logo indicates the item can be recycled (Приложение).

My friend Kate is vegetarian. She doesn’t eat meat and doesn’t wear any fur.

My other frirnd Mike sorts his rubbish carefully and divides it into organic and non- organic. He washes glass bottles, tin cans and takes each of them to a special containers, so it can be recycled.

Pete is strongly against cars, because they are big air pollutes.

President: But now excuse me, I’m in a hurry. I hope you’ll support our school and become its members.

T.: And we continue our lesson. I’d like to suggest you some important rules to protect the environment.

Look at the blackboard. You’ll see some pictures and some rules. Match them. (Приложение).

T.: Thank you. I’m sure that you are real friends to our nature.
