Тема: ”Module 6. Archaeological discoveries”

Цели:

- обучающие: развитие навыков чтения с полным пониманием содержания, расширение кругозора учащихся;

- воспитательная: воспитание интереса к истории и культуре других стран;

- развивающая: развитие внимания, памяти, языковой догадки;

Тип урока: урок изучения нового материала

Оборудование: учебник “Starlight 6”, постеры с достопримечательностями, аудиоматериалы к учебнику, ноутбук

Ход урока

  1. Introducing the Topic and Warming-Up

T: Good morning, students! How are you getting on?

S1: Good morning, teacher! I’m great, thanks etc.

T: Today, we’re going learn a lot about world famous Chinese attraction – the Terracotta Army. We’ll look at some new vocabulary, read and translate the text, then practice making our own sentences with newly-learned vocabulary and finally revise grammar rules, particularly Passive Voice.

T: But now, children, let’s do some warming-up. Look at the blackboard, read the tongue twister after me (“I miss my Swiss Miss. My Swiss Miss misses me”).

T: Super! Well done, guys!

  1. Vocabulary and Speaking

T: Now, look at the pictures on p. 98 Ex. 1, you can see different types of materials. Let’s read and translate the words.

T: Great! Now, please try to make a sentence with one of these words. For example: This monument is made of stone.

S2: These spoons are made of wood.

S3: The bowl is made of clay.

T: Right! Thank you, students!

  1. Listening & Reading

T: Okay, let’s find out what it is the Terracotta Army, is there something special about it? I’ll play the recording, you listen and follow the text in your books (p. 98 Ex. 2a).

T: Fine. That’s it, guys. It’s amazing, isn’t it? So, here we also have many new words, let’s read and translate the sentences from the text with them (“Check these words” p. 98)

T: Okay, your next task is to look through the text one more time and find the right answer to the questions from Ex. 2b p. 99. You have some time to do this, we’ll check it once you are ready.

T: You’ve got all right answers, students! Super job!

  1. Grammar

T: Okay, so, now, we move on to Grammar. Today we’re talking about Passive Voice. We’ve studied is last year, let’s revise what it is and when we use it.

S3: We use Passive Voice when the person who does the action is not important or unknown and in order to make sentences more formal or polite.

T: Great! That’s right! So, we our object in the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. Now, let’s revise the formation of passive voice for the tenses (Ex. 5 p.99)

 

T: Great! Your task is to fill in is, was, were, will be, have (Ex. 6 p.99)

  1. Summing-Up

T: Thank you for your work, students! You did a great job today and find out a lot of new facts about one of the Chinese attractions - the Terracotta Army. Hope you enjoyed the class!

T: And now your home assignment is to learn the new vocabulary that you wrote down during the class. Pay attention to the pronunciation and spelling. Do Ex. 7 p. 99 and Ex. 8 p. 99. To do Ex. 8 please write no more than 10 -12 sentences.

T: See you next time! Have a good day!
