Shakespeare's work deals with issues of politics and society that are still relevant today. In the modern world, Caesar's story is often the starting point for discussions of authoritarian regimes. So, in 2017, a play was staged in New York in which the image of Caesar was similar to Donald Trump. This sparked a discussion about the role of art in political criticism.

In Coriolanus: we see a stark contrast between the leadership of the elite and the populace. The concept of pride and the way the public perceives it are also explored. This play can be used to critique politicians who ignore the opinions of the people, drawing parallels to populist leaders.
